The Learning Community Center of South Omaha offers an increasingly successful family literacy program to families in seven high-poverty elementary schools in South Omaha. The center teaches parents essential skills so they can help their children succeed in elementary school. After expanding in temporary space, we are currently out of room for additional classes until our new home, the former South Omaha library, is ready this fall.
Family Literacy classes include parenting workshops, English courses and computer training. Parents learn the importance of activities like daily reading together at home. With the help of educational navigators making home visits, our families build strong connections with their local schools.
