South Omaha parents see opportunities with graduation day
Parents graduating from the Learning Community Center of South Omaha share a deep appreciation for how their lives have changed. In over 1,000 class hours, families learned English, how to navigate schools, motivate children to do their best and plan for college. The spring 2018 graduation ceremonies celebrate the accomplishments of more than 100 families.
The Family Learning program in South Omaha is offered in partnership with OneWorld Community Health Centers. More than 1300 children and families benefit, with hundreds more on the waiting list. The latest results show a pattern of 2-Gen success.
EVALUATION HIGHLIGHTS PARENT-CHILD SUCCESS
- Learning Community South 3rd graders exceeded school district proficiency and attendance, as well as statewide assessments of lower income students in Nebraska
- Parents increased impact with practical strategies to set limits and encourage good behavior
