College Prep for Families introduces families to the higher education experience through presentations, campus tours and access to resources. A partnership among the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Service Learning Academy, the UNO Teacher Education Department and the Learning Community Center of South Omaha, the program pairs Latino families from the Learning Community Center of South Omaha with teacher candidates taking an Intro to Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) course at UNO.

Across six weekly sessions, participants learn the fundamentals of the college application process, take tours of UNO to get a sense of student life, discuss scholarship opportunities and meet successful Latino professionals to consider future professions.

The latest cohort completed their program with a celebration on Monday, November 13, 2023. Students and families gathered to share a meal, visions for their future and their gratitude for the program. KMTV later aired a story on the program, which can be viewed here.

Congratulations to all our family participants and thank you to our partners at UNO for your continued support of this program.
