Executive Director of Early Learning Centers
Born in Chapulhuacán, Hidalgo, México, Josué Covarrubias immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of seven, bringing with him the resilience, determination, and hope that continue to define his leadership today. As a first generation student navigating a new country, language, and culture, Josué experienced firsthand the transformative power of education, supportive educators, and a strong family foundation. Those experiences ignited a lifelong passion for creating opportunities that empower children and families to thrive.
With the unwavering encouragement of his family and the guidance of exceptional teachers and mentors, Josué graduated from high school and became the first in his family to earn a college degree from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. His educational journey not only fulfilled a personal dream but also inspired a career dedicated to ensuring that every child has access to the support, encouragement, and opportunities needed to reach their fullest potential.
Josué began his career in education as a high school teacher, where he taught world languages, English Learner students, and humanities. Throughout his time in the classroom, he became known for building meaningful relationships with students and families while fostering inclusive learning environments where every student felt valued and capable of success. Recognizing the opportunity to expand his impact, he earned a master’s degree in educational leadership and transitioned into school administration.
Over the course of his leadership career, Josué has served students, families, and educators in South Sioux City, Grand Island, and Boys Town. Across each community, he has championed equity, student achievement, family engagement, and culturally responsive leadership. His work has consistently centered on strengthening schools, empowering educators, and building collaborative partnerships that create lasting opportunities for children from every background.
Today, Josué serves as the Executive Director of Early Learning Centers for the Learning Community of Douglas and Sarpy Counties, where he provides strategic leadership for high quality early childhood programming that supports young learners and their families during the most critical years of development. He is committed to advancing educational excellence through collaboration, innovation, and a deep belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed regardless of circumstance.
A lifelong learner, Josué is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership, further strengthening his ability to lead systems that positively impact children, families, and communities across Nebraska.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Josué is a devoted husband and father whose greatest joy comes from his family. He remains deeply committed to serving his community, mentoring future leaders, and advocating for educational opportunities that help build stronger families, stronger schools, and stronger communities. His leadership is grounded in humility, service, and the belief that education has the power to change lives for generations to come.
