We are thrilled to welcome Monica R. Wells as our new Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Learning Community of Douglas and Sarpy County.
Monica brings more than 20 years of experience in education, leadership, and community engagement, most recently serving as the Family and Community Administrator at the Buffett Early Childhood Institute. Throughout her career, Monica has built a reputation as a passionate connector—one who fosters meaningful partnerships between families, schools, and community organizations to drive equity and student success.
In this new role, Monica will lead strategic efforts to align initiatives, deepen community collaboration, and ensure impactful outcomes for children and families across our learning communities. Her commitment to servant leadership, innovation, and inclusive growth makes her a powerful addition to our team.
Monica’s dedication to community extends far beyond the workplace. She currently serves on many boards including, Kids Can Community Center, Jesuit Academy, Nebraska Children’s Home Society, and Board Vice President of African Culture Connections. Monica has held key roles with numerous organizations, including Heartland Family Services’ North Omaha Community Council, Collective For Hope/Grief’s Journey, Nelson Mandela Elementary’s Community Academic Relations Committee, and as a TeamMates Mentoring Program mentor. She also serves as a Deacon and as the Senior Leader for Congregational Care and Support at Church On Purpose.
